Does Medicare Cover Flu Shots And Vaccines?

Medicare Cover Flu Shots

Medicare Cover Flu Shots-

Medicare Cover Flu Shots Part B (Medical Insurance) covers one flu shot per flu season.

Your Costs

If Original Medicare is your primary payer, you pay nothing for a flu shot if your doctor or other qualified healthcare provider accepts the assignment for giving the shot. You can also get the shot if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan. Most plans will cover the shot, but it is advisable to check with your plan first prior to getting the shot.

Pneumococcal Shots-

Your Costs-

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers pneumococcal shots (Vaccines) at no cost under Original Medicare. Medicare will cover the Single Dose or 2 Dose Series Once Per Lifetime. If your coverage is with a Medicare Advantage Plan, you may need to use an in-network provider for the vaccine to be covered.

Shingles Shots-

Medicare Parts A(Hospital) and Part B(Medical) do not have the Shingles Shot. You can get coverage for your Shingles Shot through your Part D Prescription Drug Plan. Also, if you are getting coverage through a Medicare Advantage Plan, most have a Part D Drug Plan included. In 2023, if your Part D Plan covers the Shingles Vaccine, there will be no cost sharing.

Things to Know

•Don’t wait to get your shots. You can get the shots many places, including your doctor’s office and your local pharmacy — contact them for details. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, contact your plan — most places accept Medicare Advantage Plans.
•Stay safe.
